A first.

Hello friends! For today’s post I have a poem I wrote inspired by Alison Malee’s class on Skillshare. It’s about my first family wedding :) I hope you enjoy!

The sun is setting, staining the sky with a blend of colors, rose-hued.

There is only a slight breeze : the air is still warm, but the wind makes my hair undulate.

I hear distant chatter, indistinguishable laughter, music released from speakers.

I hear the little rocks

crunch under my heels as I walk.

My high waist pants are firmly fitted, the fabric hugging my waist and legs ;

the thick bow protrudes as if a nicely wrapped gift.

The belt at my waist holds me secure, the heels at my feet elevate my stance, shimmery lip and winged eyeliner make me feel like I can take on the world.

I stand proudly tall against the vastness of mother nature, feeling at once

elegant, fierce, and fragile.

I rub my lips, the gloss spreading across soft flesh,

my necklace scintillates as it catches a ray of

sun.

The straps of my heels hug my feet, but as the night grows longer,

they start to ache and feel

heavy.

As I rub my toes against the sole, I feel dust from tiny pebbles,

an uncomfortable sensation against my skin.

A table of food discreetly positioned in the center.

Platters of petit-fours, hand held bites, and crudites come and go.

They are the center of attention, yet they seamlessly

blend into the commotion of the night.

Gratitude fills my eyes, ready to spill out

tears of joy. Beauty surrounds me in the shape of nature,

humans, sounds. Elusive happiness becomes palatable.
